I used to wander craft stores drooling over fabric, wishing I knew how to sew.
Learning to sew was overwhelming! Sewing classes required a machine and supplies. If I had never touched a sewing machine, how could I know what to buy? I was a crafty person and I would look at items in shops like pillows and bags and think, I really want to make that!
One day, I bought a machine online and spent many frustrating nights on YouTube while my kids were sleeping. I've come a long way since then, and I want to make your journey easier.

In 2016, I opened Crosscut Sewing Co. so I could make it easy for people to learn to sew. In my studio, I provide everything needed for students but I wanted to extend that as much as possible to sewers at home. While I can't provide all of the tools, my beginner classes require minimal supplies and I have kits available to take the guesswork out of making projects.

You Don't Need Experience or a Fancy Setup
Do I need a sewing machine?
Yes, you will need a sewing machine but the quick start guide included in the class will give you some ideas on borrowing, renting or buying one.
Do I need a lot of supplies?
Nope! The projects are designed to use basic supplies, most of which you already have in your house.
How can I teach something I don't know?
You don't! I am the teacher. If you are following this class with a child, your job is to learn along with us, make sure the child is using tools safely and to facilitate.
When does the course start and finish?
The course starts now and never ends! It is a completely self-paced online course. You decide when you start and when you finish.
How long do I have access to the course?
